Penang Trip Day 2

Day 2, 9th march 2009

Sometimes, I don't know why the hell do I even bother to write such a long post. haha. Maybe I just have the urge to do so. I can't really remember what we did on the 2nd and 3rd day because its all mixed up in my mind now.

We took more pictures on the 2nd day. All of us woke up quite early for breakfast. We get to see each other sleepy and blur faces. I was still tired from yesterday but eventually got over it a few minutes later. Charmaine and I were cracking our head on what to wear and what to bring.

Our plans for the day was Penang Hill and Butterfly Farm. Later at night, we'll be watching Watchmen.

We had breakfast somewhere... I can't recall where. I had Lor Mee and Milo Ice for breakfast. The mee was quite good. The others had a combinations of Prawn Mee, Curry Mee and Porridge.

After our satisfying breakfast, all of us started sweating already. I don't know if it is just me or any of us, but the weather is blazing hot. I forgot to bring extra packets of tissues. So, I told one of the guys to stop at the Petrol Station to but one big packet of tissues. One of them ended up buying a box of tissues instead of the packet ones.. o.O?

We reached Penang Hill about 11.30 a.m I think. The ride up to Penang Hill is so boring. I've been there before and why would I wanna take a ride up there again right? I guess all of us thought about the same thing. So, this time we took a detour. We did not take the tortoise train up the hill.

We hiked up the hill instead. That is why Charmaine and I were fussing about what to wear. haha! None of us went hiking up a hill before and its our first time. I brought the wrong shoes with me. I did not know that we're going hiking. I wore my Converse shoes, since its the only shoes I brought. At least I am wearing shoes. Our dear friend Khai Wen and Kah Fai wore slippers.

At first I thought it will all be easy and boring since we're just gonna walk on some pavements up the hill. Even though, there are people who already hiked this hill before by their visible trails on the soil and markings on every tree it was a challenge for all of us. According to our tour guide, My Yap, The height of Penang Hill is 5 km. He said the we would last 5 km at all. The most will be 2.5 km. Ah well..

We took the jungle trail instead of the ones with pavement. All of us were so energetic. I was so excited to be in the forest, again. It has been almost 6 years since the last time I went into the forest. It felt so good to be close to nature again. For the first hour, our climb up was great! At least, to me. Kah Fai was already asking, "Are we reaching 2.5????"

I don't have the chance to take any pictures. I don't wanna miss out all the adventurous climbing. I felt afraid a little because I was slightly afraid of heights and my body balance wasn't as good as the others. Throughout the journey, some of us were singing out loud. I tried to sing along but I was out of breath. All of us were also laughing about the fact that KW and KF are hiking up with slippers. We reached the first checkpoint.

I never knew that there was a checkpoint. We had free drink. They served us black coffee and water. Water is be the best option. I don't really drink coffee. We need tissues!!!!!! haha. This is where one box of tissues is put into use. XD. Khai wen was our tissue supporter! We took some pictures and also took a short break.

Kok Siang, one of the photographers. He's taking a picture of me.

and I'm the other photographer, I'm taking a picture of Kok Siang. XD

Kacau la you, Shaz.. Ish....

So, I decided to crop out his face. but then, the first one still look better.
Maybe because I camwhored too much. No wonder he make that expression.

Us.

and us again. =)

So, after all that we continue our hiking again. Some of the boys are staring to fart all the way. Its just disgusting. ugh! How can you people fart so much!!!?!We all eat the same food most of the time but ughh....Then they will just start laughing at each others fart. OMG.... Then they just start talking about shit which I do not want to elaborate. Eeek!

We took more frequent breaks as we go on further. All of us were bathing in sweat. But, no one cares. I was really enjoying myself. I am not really an outdoor person for the past 6 years. I miss being an outdoor person. I used to go swimming, jungle tracking and stuffs like that. Hiking/ Climbing up Penang Hill was so refreshing. The air was so cooling and breezy. I love it. I stopped swaeting.

After walking on muddy and slippery trails, we've reached 2.5. All of us were quite tired from all the climbing, walking and jumping. My feet was hurting. Maybe because of the flat sole. Not suitable for hiking. haha. KF and KW were so proud of hiking up with slippers as their slippers were almost flattened.

As we hiked up further, mist are starting to appear from nowhere.

As we go up higher, the could turned from sky blue to grey. I was worried.
About 7 years ago, I went jungle tracking when it was raining cats and dogs. Its not a pleasant sight for those who are wearing glasses. I was also afraid of the slippery soil because there was one I slided down the hill because I lost my grip. I scratched my palms and elbows. haha. Good times.

Thank god it never rain. I have shortness of breath more frequently. After every short break, I rose up feeling energised again. The cycle goes on. We reached to a point where we have to walk on tarred roads. It wasn't a relief.

The road was amazingly steep. I think its like 70 degrees. For the first half an hour, I was okay and after that, my whole leg hurts. I do walk a lot on a regular basis. The pain was there at the beginning but it went away after a while. However, this time was different. My leg muscles were stretched to the limit. It ached. ugh!

The road was so steep all the way up. Every corner we took, we were happy that it was all done. Just when I thought we are almost reaching the top, the next turn bring us an even steeper climb . Ahhhhh!!!!! Help me....
The higher we go, the steeper the road, that's my hypothesis.

My conclusion : the hypothesis is accepted. My Yap who was guiding us all the way was ahead of us. All of us saluted him for having such high stamina to climb up Penang Hill. He is already 60 years old and he was ahead of us all through. He had to wait for us and helped us all the way up. He said, he does this 2 times every week. Wow. and..... People actually live up there. I see houses, motorbikes and vehicles going up and down.

5 km. When we reached Penang Hill, all I want was a big bottle of cold water. But, I had chocolate ice cream. We took some pictures and damn, I felt so good. I felt that I've accomplished something - losing weight.

All of us were already thinking about having a massive lunch or dinner. It was already 3.3o p.m. We took the train down Penang Hill. No way we're gonna hike down. haha!

This activity is not for people who has breathing problems. Seriously. I might wanna go hiking again someday. All of us do, I think. This time, none of us were prepared for what is coming ahead. Climbing up Bukit Bendera/Penang Hill is such a great way to escape the monotony and predictability of life. All of us are so random. And wonderful things happens out of randomness. I don't know if I can find anyone else besides my friends who are willing to do these things.

After that, we went to a Asam Laksa Hawker stall nearby a market not far away from Penang Hill. Jun was talking about this stall almost everyday and how eager he wanted to eat it again. We manage to find 2 tables for the eight of us. We had Sugar Cane juice/ Air Tebu. Asam Laksa was super deeeeelicious! There are traces of prawns in the soup that I was worrying so much but I was too hungry to think about it. It was the best food I've ever tasted in Penang. hahaha! Shaz and Jhun ordered another bowl each.

Butterfly Farm was postponed for the 3rd day. We head back to our hotel, bathed and rest.

Later that night around 7.30 p.m, we waited for Mr. Yap at the lobby for our movie at Gurney Plaza. We waited quite long outside the hotel. There was a traffic jam in front our hotels. At the same time, I suspected some tension in the air. Maybe its just me. There was an accident along the road. ugh. How convenient. All of us were starving to death already.

our movie was at 9.25p.m. Thank god we made it for the movie but not dinner at Gurney Drive. =(

The movie was alright. I love Rorschach. The movie was funny and sarcastic.
I was trying so hard to understand the show. haha.

After the movie, we walked to the food place next to Gurney Plaza. While walking, something happened again. I broke my slippers, AGAIN! All my friends burst into laugther. Shit la. Why is this happening to me. First time it happened, one of the guys piggy-backed me. Now, its happening all over again. I had another piggy-back ride. But then, I don't want to be piggy-backed as so many people were staring.

So, Kok Siang came up with a brilliant and yet genius idea! Rubber bands!!!! He told me to tie the rubber bands on my feet and slippers and guess what????

IT WORKED!!! OMg, I was ecstatic!!! That night, I ate 2 plates of Char-Koay Teow. It wasn't as nice as the first night I tried it but edible. Maybe its because it was from a different stall. They weren't many shops after midnight. I was a little surprised. We finished at 1 a.m and we head back to our hotel to have a good night sleep.

Time now : 6.16 p.m

Wow.. it took me 3 hours to blog this post. haha!
